Do People Like Their First Name?

Do you like your first name?

First names can be called given names. First name is usually what people call you. However you can ask people to call you as what you want. When people say your name correctly it doesn’t matter. But how if people say you incorrectly?

Delana Pence a shy girl that written in the text have a problem about her first name. She feel that her name is unusual because people would mispronounce it or make fun of it. She knows that her name is a pretty name but it took her years to struggle with it and figure that out. She asked herself why she couldn’t be a Cindy or a Rhonda. If you think that your name is unusual than what it could be?

My first name is Sandra and that’s what people call me, except by my family who always called me Intan. When I was in elementary school, I have a friend named Sandra too but he is a boy and I’m a girl. So I feel like Sandra is for girls or boys? And almost the same problem, when I was in high school I have a friend, his name is Chandra, I felt such a relief because it’s different in pronounce it.

Bacha Posh

I read a story written by Nadia Hashimi in her novel called “A Pearl That Broke Its Shell”. She tells us about an Afghanistan tradition named “Bacha Posh”. The tradition happen when a family without sons, parents should choose one of their daughters to live and behave as a boy. This enables them to behave freely, they’re working, they escorting their sisters, they can playing with other boy. In her novel, she narrated two Bacha Posh stories. First from the ancestor story, Shekiba turned to be Shekib. Second from the present time, Rahima turned to be Rahim.

In conclusion, we should appreciate our parents. However, they give their best when they named us all. Don't bother people who call you incorrectly but remember that your parents will never give you name randomly. They must be have reasons why they give you that name because they want the best for their children.
