Hello, in this occasion we would like to discuss about Sociolinguistics.
Language is one of the most powerful aspects of social behavior. In every situation, we use language for transferring information, we use language for sending social messages about who we are, where we come from, and who we associate with, etc. Its characteristics are unique and variation, means that every social environment, intergroup and interpersonal, has different dialect and accent. Sometimes, we unconsciously may judge a person's background, character, and intentions based simply upon the person's language, dialect, accent, or, in some instances, even the choice-diction of a single word. From the social role of language, it stands to reason that one field of language study should concentrate on the role of language in society behavior in order to people can tolerate each other.
In this sociolinguistic realm, thing that will be discussed is the diversity of languages. Sociolinguistics has become more and more important either popular field of study, as certain cultures around the world increasingly expand their communication intergroup either interpersonal relations take on escalating significance. Here are some explanation about sociolinguistics according to some experts. According to Spolsky (2010: 3), sociolinguistic is the field that studies the relation between language and society, between the uses of language and the social structures in which the users of language live. Moreover, according to Criper dan H.G.Widdowson in J.P.B Allen dan S.P Corder (1975:156), sosiolinguistcs is the study of language operation, it’s purposeis to investigate how the convention of the language use relate to other aspects of social behavior.
In conclusion, Sociolinguistics, is the descriptive study of the sociological aspects of language on the way language is used and society’s effect on language. Its discipline concerns with the part language plays in maintaining the social roles in a community. Sociolinguistics are interested in explaining why people speak differently in different social behavior, and concerned in identifying the social functions of language and the ways it is used to convey social meaning. Furthermore, examining the way people use language in different social contexts provides a wealth of information about the way language works, as well as about the social relationships in a community, either the way people convey and construct aspects of their social identity through their language.
