Do you know Indonesia? My country is Indonesia, a developing country.
Education is the most influential element in the development of a country if a country truly pays attention to education means that the country is truly serious about its development or in the progress of its country. In other words, whether or not a country's progress is influenced by educational factors. The low quality of education can detain the provision of superior human resources, who have the expertise and skills to meet the nation's development in various fields.
In my previous blog, I was talking about the Irish Education System. Now, I'm talking about several factors or problems that cause education in Indonesia can not develop and you can compare Indonesia and Ireland, as follows:
1. Cost of education
The quality of education is expensive. This sentence often appears to justify the high costs incurred by the community to get an education. The high cost of education from kindergartens to tertiary institutions leaves the poor with no choice but to not go to school.
In Ireland, started from primary school until tertiary school there is no fee for students. All public schools are financed by the government. In primary school, parents are only asked to buy some books and pay 20 euros per year. It is mandatory to use the uniform but does not have to buy the exact same model, as long as the color is similar and it is okay to buy anywhere.
2. Equal Education Opportunities
Opportunities for education are still limited at the elementary school level. The Balitbang Data of the Ministry of National Education and the Directorate General of Binbaga of the Ministry of Religion in 2000 showed that the Net Enrollment Rate (NER) for elementary school children in 1999 reached 94.4% (28.3 million students). The achievement of this APM is in the high category. The Pure Education Participation Rate in SLTP is still low at 54.8% (9.4 million students). Meanwhile, early childhood education services are still very limited. Failure to provide guidance at an early age will certainly detain overall human resource development. Therefore we need the right education policies and strategies for addressing the problem of inequality.
3. Teacher Welfare
The low welfare of teachers has a role in making the quality of education in Indonesia low. Ideally, a teacher receives a monthly salary of Rp 3 million. Now, the average monthly income of PNS teachers is Rp 1.5 million and teacher aids in Rp. 460 thousand, and honorary teachers in private schools an average of Rp. 10 thousand per hour. With income like that, obviously, many teachers are forced to do side jobs. There are those who teach again in other schools, give tutoring in the afternoon, become motorcycle taxi drivers, boiled noodle sellers, booksellers / LKS, mobile phone credit sellers, and so on
The quality of education in Ireland is 9th in the world. How come? Because the Irish government is investing heavily in education issues. In Ireland, the salary of a teacher is really paid attention to in terms of numbers. Just imagine even a teacher without experience can reach 461 million per year without any deductions. And obviously more professional teachers can reach 900 million per year.
4. Quality of Physical Facilities For physical facilities, many Indonesian schools and colleges have damaged buildings, ownership and use of learning media are low, library books are incomplete. While laboratories are not standardized, the use of information technology is inadequate and so on. In fact, there are still many schools that do not have their own buildings, do not have libraries, do not have laboratories and so on.
What's the problem with the education system in your country? And what's the solution?
